Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT/A) cleaves SNAP-25, a protein required for SNARE-mediated vesicular fusion at the neuromuscular junction. This prevents acetylcholine release, causing temporary, localised muscle paralysis. Effects onset within 24–72 hours and last 3–6 months as new nerve terminals sprout.
